Welcome friends,
I’m so excited to see our church reaching out through the internet to keep our members informed, and also to reach out into our community for Jesus Christ.
Thanks so much to Megan Holland, who took on this project. We miss her so much while she’s attending JMU, but know God’s doing a great work in her life. Also, appreciate so much that even though she’s off at college, she still cares about our church family here at Whitmell and wants to help us in our ministry here.
It’s my hope that there will be those who will find this page who are looking for a place to worship the one true God. There are so many churches teaching so many things, it can really get confusing. So I think it would be appropriate to let you know a little bit about our church.
We are a smaller, but unique church. Unique in the sense that we have a congregation made up of all generations. We have a core group of “mature” Christians who have been instrumental in leading our congregation to where it is today. Some of these were just young children when the church was established here in 1952.
We also have a thriving group of adults who are in the process of raising their families. It’s not uncommon to see three and even four generations of a family worshipping together.
We also have seen a growth in single adults in our congregation, some through the death of a spouse, others due to divorce, and also those who are beginning to establish themselves as adults. Their presence speaks much of the future of our congregation.
God has also blessed us with a wonderful group of young people. We have a group of 8-10 youth that meet each Wednesday evening under the direction of our youth director, Luke Clifton. Right now they’re going through a fantastic overview of the Bible called “The Story.” This is teaching them so much about God’s working throughout history to accomplish His purpose. We know we may only have them for a short time, so it’s important to us to prepare them as best we can for their future.
I think that’s enough for now. We’ll continue with more next time.
I’m so thankful for the privilege to serve the Lord here at Whitmell. God has blessed greatly in my 10+ years here. And I can’t wait to see what the future may hold.
To God be the glory,
Tim
