Cat and Mouse

Hello Friends,

I remember several years ago when my dad moved to North Carolina from Oklahoma, that there was a cat that was left there from the previous owner. He aptly named the cat “Ugly,” but while she wasn’t much to look at, she was one of the best natured cats I have ever been around.

One morning Dad and I were sitting together under the tree by his shop when we noticed Ugly doing something in the yard. She was pouncing and swatting at something. As we looked a little closer, we realized she was playing with a field mouse. She would trap it with one paw, swat it a few times with the other paw, and then sit back and watch the mouse as it stood there dazed.

Then, as the mouse began to get his wits about him, he would see the opportunity to get away and start to run. Ugly would let him get a few feet and then pounce on the poor mouse and start the tormenting over again.

I don’t know about you, but some days I feel like that mouse, just going about my business like I do every day when life pounces and starts smacking me around. It shouldn’t surprise me. The Bible warns that the Devil is out there like a roaring lion seeking those he can devour. But his suddenness, and the helplessness I feel, can and often does feel overwhelming.

After realizing what was happening to that poor mouse, we got up and held the cat back so the mouse could get away. I guess we ruined her playtime!

I’m thankful that in the same way, God is watching over us and protecting us. He promised that nothing could come into our lives that we could not bear up under. And while we may get smacked around some, God will not allow Satan to destroy His children.

I’m so thankful that God watches over us and protects us from being overwhelmed by the evil around us. When we see the havoc Satan wreaks and how it is destroying the lives of people we love, it’s tempting to become discouraged and lose hope; but we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ our Lord!

If you’re feeling like life is going to knock you down, don’t give up. God’s on the way!

Until next time.

All glory be to God,

Tim
