Belief in God

Hello Friends,

This week I was reading an article from Mother Jones that tried to explain why even though they believe evolution disproves God, that there are “evolutionary” reasons why man seeks after God. In their view, we evolved with certain characteristics that predispose us to believe in a god or gods.

While I will not go too deep into this article, it made me think about how many people either don’t believe in God (or any deity). I found some research done by the Pew Forum on people’s belief in God in America. It was interesting to see that a large majority still claim to believe in God, while many are unsure or even sure they don’t believe.

This caused me to realize that we probably have friends, co-workers, fellow students, or other acquaintances that have little to no assurance that there is a God. So for this reason, I want to spend the next few Sundays sharing reasons to believe in Jehovah God, His Son Jesus Christ, the validity of the Bible, and the truth of the Christian faith.

I hope that through these messages we’ll have greater confidence to address these issues. And even more importantly, I hope to help those who are questioning their belief in these fundamental aspects of their faith system.

I am also excited about the upcoming Vacation Bible School coming up next weekend. The theme is Camp Out. Please bring any kids you know from preschool through grade 5 to join us. We’ll have lots of fun and learn how to let our lights shine for Jesus.

The VBS will be on Friday & Saturday, July 14-15. We’ll begin with a meal at 6:00 (parents are welcome to join us, too). Then from 6:30-8:00 we’ll have our VBS, which will include singing, games, crafts, and fun outdoor learning (weather permitting) that will show us how to let our light shine. Come and bring your friends and neighbors.

Then on Sunday morning, July 16th at 10:00 we’ll have our closing program for the VBS. Also, after the 11:00 worship service, we’ll have a Camp Out Cook Out to conclude our VBS.
