Getting "S'more" of Jesus as Adults

Hello Friends,

This week we’ve been busy preparing for our Vacation Bible School that started yesterday. We had a great time and a wonderful group of kids joined us for Camp Out, Getting S’more of Jesus. I’m so thankful that we have the opportunity to encourage these kids at an early age to want more of Jesus in their lives.

However, as I was preparing, I couldn’t help but think about the possibility that these kids might follow the path of others who as they get older decide that they no longer want more of Jesus. It seems that young kids are usually anxious to learn about him, but lose that desire as they get older.

This week for our Sunday sermon, I want to consider why we should want “S’more” of Jesus in our lives as adults. I want us to think about why we can trust him and his teachings as a proper guide in our lives. Too many are convinced by the lies of the world that deny or discount the importance of Jesus for our lives.

Can we have confidence in Jesus as our life guide? For many reasons, I say absolutely!

I also want to take a few moments to thank all those who helped with our VBS this year. To all those who prepared and served the food, those who led the music, led in the craft time, taught, played games, and loved our kids. A huge thank you!

I also want to encourage all of our VBS kids and their families to join us Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. for the VBS closing program. We’ll then have our morning worship services followed by a Camp Out Cook Out for everyone in attendance Sunday morning. Come help support our kids and join the fun!

I would like to especially like to thank our youth director and VBS coordinator for this year, Luke Clifton, for all he has done for our youth.

Luke has been here for the last few years teaching, encouraging, and loving our youth. He has been such a blessing to our kids and the entire church. But now the Lord is calling him in a new direction.

At the end of this month, Luke will be leaving us here at Whitmell to begin a new ministry as the Children’s Minister at the Rich Acres Christian Church in Martinsville, VA. While we’re all sad to see him go, I am excited for him being able to commit himself full-time to teaching and encouraging youth. Please pray for him in this new endeavor.

Until next time.

All glory be to God,

Tim
